A Guide to Hood Club Etiquette…..

For those of you who read the previous Etiquette installment on Southern strip clubs, you know how much we like to educate and inform, here at Meet the Fresh so I felt it was only right that I create another list to further educate my folks who may not know. While a strip club can also be classified as a hood club, they have many characteristics which differentiate the two……it’s definitely science ya’ll lol, so like the Strip Club Etiquette post, I will now give you my list of guidelines for making the most, and more importantly, having a safe experience in a hood club.

Seventy Five…..

For those of you that may be confused about the photo of my thermostat and it’s significance, don’t be alarmed. It’s just a random observation. With that said, I was recently watching an episode of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm featuring a hilarious dialogue between LD and Vivica Fox’s character in which Larry complains about the house being too hot and requesting that they keep the thermostat at 68 degrees, a temperature which sparked the same reaction out of both me and Vivica, shear disbelief. This was followed by the entering of JB Smoove’s character Leon exclaiming how he’s a “78-82 man himself” (a bit excessive but hilarious) and 68 degrees is a tad bit too fridget. While being completely random, I began to think about how many disputes I’ve had over the years in regards to room temperature and came to the conclusion that I’m “a 75 man, myself”. You can participate in this “pseudo focus group” by simply leaving a comment with your ideal temperature. Let me know what works for yall……dope

Diary of a Mad Blog – Part 1

As we previously mentioned, we decided to document the behind-the-scenes activities that go into some of our more content-rich posts and provide you all with a glimpse of upcoming projects we’re working on. Me and Gezee have thrown around many labels to classify Meet the Fresh in a category or “type of blog” with no success. We’re not a fashion blog, or an entertainment blog. We love art but that’s not it either. We cover news but don’t boast of the contacts or resources to be a gossip blog (which we would never want to be anyway). What we are is more like an “online reality show”, and our posts are like episodes (I told you we were mad) filled with thoughtful writing and story telling visuals. Pretty exciting stuff if I do say myself. One new aspect to look forward to is video production sponsored by WAXWUN and Bestram Productions based out of Charlotte, NC. You can expect to see a series of interviews by Executive Producers WAXWUN and MTF’s Gezee Roze`with more interesting and inspiring people to add another dynamic to the site. You can also expect to see even more photography due to a new addition to the MTF family in the form of Roze’s new Canon DSLR. Yep, Gezee now has the photography bug and I intend to share all of my aquired knowledge with her. Updates to come in the very near future, and now to the last order of business. It’s recently occured to me and GR that there is some ongoing speculation about the nature of our relationship/partnership which is amusing to us. Anybody who knows us, knows how we “get down”. All I’ll say is, our relationship is spectacular lol. Till next time……..Dope

Boooo This Man…….

Everybody knows that there is a deep rooted hostility between people of the low-income demographic and law enforcement. Some of that hostilitity is unjust, as all police are not bad people, however, the actions of Sgt. Robert Ralston confirms that some of that hostility is justifiable. In order to “protect and serve” his own twisted self-interest, Mr. Robert Ralston (he’s no longer a Sgt. due to being fired) set off a massive manhunt stemming from accusations that he’d been attacked by two armed black men on the streets of Philadelphia. Ralston claimed that he was attacked and held at gunpoint, during which time, he managed to knock the gun away from one of the men causing it to go off and strike him in the shoulder. Ralston was immediately given respect and commendation for his heroics by fellow officers. There was only one problem…..the manhunt didn’t yield any suspects and the alleged culprits were never found, prompting an investigation into Ralston’s story. After a lengthy interrogation, Ralson admitted to making the whole thing up, motive unknown, and the bullet wound he suffered turned out to be self-inflicted, made by the angle of the bullet wound. This is yet another, “black eye” in the face of law enforcement when it comes to dealing with urban young people. It’s a shame that I still get a little nervous when I see blue lights in my rearview mirror. It’s not that I’m doing anything wrong…….you just never know with some of the these cops these days. I am in no way saying all police are bad because thats not true, but there are some people in law enforcement who give it a bad name. Lemme know your thoughts. We would like to hear from you.

Random Thoughts from Interesting People – Part 1

Recently, I got to hang out with a good friend of mine that goes simply by the name, ShawnG. Easily, one of the most interesting and quick witted people I’ve ever met, you either love’em or hate’em. I figured he would be the perfect prototype for a new post concept I’ve been considering, where instead of an interview I merely jot down random thoughts from the subject in an Inside the Actors Studio/Word Association-esque fashion…..nothing too complex, just a quick snap shot into the mental of interesting folks around me. Subjects are asked to give a brief, honest response to random words and phrases. Here’s how it went.

The Morning After……

So my girls and I got into a heated discussion about “giving it up” after the first date. It seems as though the rules of engagement while dating have changed dramatically. I am a single woman/mother, and I will admit that my dates are far and few in between, so I may be out of practice and not really current in the “rules of dating”. But I have learned through conversations and the situations of others that it is acceptable to have sex with that person you may have just had your first date with. Now I am not clueless to the fact that this goes on often, but I did not realize that it was accepted into the mainstream like reality television.
