Vintage Shopping 101: What to look for
I am a woman who loves fashion and believes in one’s ability to exude great style… so much that I uprooted my comfy life in Atlanta, left family and friends to move to New York City, just so I can work, play, and bask in fashion and all the elements of great style! It is my belief that one cannot showcase true style without paying respect to its origins; hence began my love of vintage clothing. Now, my love affair with vintage started back in high school while sitting in my mother’s closet. Throughout the years, I have inherited several amazing pieces (clothing, jewelry, bags and shoes) and typically wear at least one piece everyday! But when I feel the need to acquire new “investments”, I always hit up my favorite places: thrift stores, Goodwill’s, flea markets and consignment shops! When Gezee Roze` asked me to do a guest post, I could not think of a better topic than a “How To” guide when it comes to vintage shopping.

Fashion, Entertainment: This year’s RIP the Runway on BET-”Moving fashion forward”

On March 15, 2010, BET showcased this year’s “RIP the Runway”, where fashion and music collide. I will be doing a few posts today on different aspects of the show. I am choosing to, first, post about the thing that I enjoyed most about the show and that is the performances. They were energetic and sound quality for the most part was great, and for me, overshadowed the fashion that was being showcased, especially when Janelle Monae hit the stage. She literally stole the show! Others included in the musical line-up are Estelle, Trina, Ludacris featuring Nicki Minaj (Nicki also co-hosted this years “RIP the Runway”), and Soulja Boy just to name a few.

Art & Design: Hip-Hop Inspired Art of Justin Bua

When you look at the artwork of Justin Bua, you see that the hip-hop influence is enormously evident. Born in NY on the Upper West Side, he got his start doing grafitti, coming up during the time that hip-hop was fresh and influencing a young culture. In furthering his education, Bua attended the Art Institute of Pasadena, and has also experienced commercial success, providing visuals for the likes of EA Sports.
Known for his “distorted urban realism” via amazing illustrations, he’s preparing for his return to New York for his first ever, solo show on March 25, 2010 at Pop International Galleries, 473 West Broadway, New York. If your in the New York area, you’d definitely want to check that out. Here is some of Bua’s work
