Photography & Fashion: Close Up & Private Issue 01

Sergei Sviatchenko has managed to combine two of my favorite aspects of life by merging photography with fashion for his recent project, “Close Up & Private Issue 01″. As you’ll see, none of the subjects’ faces are showing, with the focal point of the pictures being the garments. The style is definitely retro, but the looks are all fly enought to rock in the present. When I look at a project like this, I not only admire the photography but I’m inspired by the fashion and style. I’m seeing the color combinations and try to figure out how to make a certain look my own. If you ever needed a reference on how to dress, you don’t have to look any further. We’ll definitely be on the look out for more interesting work from Sergei Sviatchenko.

Lifestyle: Sneak-It-In-Disposable Flasks

Here at MTF in no way do we encourage drinking irresponsibly but this idea is definitely fresh. The name says it all: Sneak It In Disposable Flasks….picture a Capri Sun pouch for alcohol. It definitely provides a low-key method of taking your own portible liquor container, virtually anywhere. It’s portable, freezable, reusable, and disposable and they can accomodate 7.5 oz. of your favorite alcoholic beverage. Between sporting events and movie theaters, drinks can get pricey. The $15 price for a set of three is definitely a good investment. Dope

Fashion: Commonwealth Utility 2010 Fall/Winter Line

In typical MTF fashion, we continue to educate you on fashion and style. This post is no different, spotlighting Commonwealth Utility’s 2010 Fall/Winter line by designer Anthony Keegan. The line takes on a nautical theme with naval-inspired looks based on the 1982 film, “An Officer and A Gentleman”. The designs are great and definitely relevant in the present landscape of a men’s fashion industry which is focusing more on tailored cuts and sophisticated, classical ensembles. The line is fully stocked with marine inspired coats, jackets, tailored trousers, and shirts featuring leathers, wools, and plaids in classic naval dark tones. The line is definitely on fire, but even more than the line, I’m loving the theme. “An Officer and A Gentleman” isn’t something I would immediately recognize as a fashion movie, but I definitely see it now, and I’m now leaning towards rocking shorter length jeans. Definitely dope

Fashion: Kardashian Bebe line debuts during NY Fashion Week

I am very excited about this collection and am so glad the Kardashian clan chose Bebe to partner with in lauching their line. The Kardashian ladies are known for their form-fitting, hip hugging style so I am sure this new line will reflect just that.

Random Thoughts: Solange is My New Favorite Knowles

It had previously occurred to me (around 2008) that I was starting to like Solange’s music. She had a video that was getting airplay on MTV Jams. Fast forward to 2010……I recently came across a great article on The BVX on how, as of late, Solange Knowles has risen from the shadow of big sister Beyonce and is slowly making her own name as dj, photo-blogger, and all-around eccentric hipster. The article talks about Solange’s transformation and what could have been contributing factors. Being alone in Idaho as a new bride and mother, Solange stated that she spent many nights listening to Marvin Gaye in bars, drinking beer. I too, spend a lot of time in my own head and know from personal experience that it does something to you creatively. It helps you really get to know yourself, and I’m no “shrink”, but I’m sure that had something to do with it. She eventually got a divorce and went back home to Houston where she began her metamorphisis.

Entertainment: HBO’s Funny of Die Presents – Drunk History

I don’t usually watch a whole lot of television, but HBO is slowing restoring my faith. I recently wrote a post on How to Make it in America and how much I love that show…….well once again, HBO has entertained me with Funny of Die Presents based on the Funny or Die Website with the same name. It’s being executive produced by Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy and features some of the sharpest, most creative writers, actors, and producers. Everybody has free reign to be creative and the show’s gonna feature some actors you wouldn’t expect to see. This would have to be the biggest internet-to-television merger in history, and the introduction to the future of home entertainment.

Art & Design: Alberto “Sting” Russo’s Amazing Designs

Alberto “Sting” Russo is a Switzerland based creative director, illustrator, and founder of Swiss design studio, Areadesign. I managed to discover his portfolio, and I was extremely impressed by his work. The Jay-z illustration is a great picture, but the New York City “collage-effect” is incredible. You have to appreciate this level of creativity…..dope

Video: Tom Green Freestyles Circles Around A Lot of Signed Rappers

YouTube Preview Image
Whether or not it was a freestyle, Tom Green did his thing on this beat. I was totally shocked. His flow is on some throwback Mike D from The Beastie Boys type sound. Who’d have thought that the goofy white dude from Canada was killin it like that. The line about the “don’t want nothing that I ain’t got yet” is crazy. He actually, outshined Xzibit even though they weren’t battling….either way, you be the judge. Dope

Lifestyle: The Huffington Post Presents – HuffPost College

I’m always impressed by ideas that connect with people in the present and identify directly with relevant situations. Here’s an idea put forth by Arianna Huffington: HuffPost College, a blog catering to everything relevant to present and former college students. The first feature is one that identifies with many young adults in this country right now, student loan debts. The showcases college students from around the nation and their stories. Being a person who attended college (and grad school) I’m extremely eager for some sort of solution to this debt crisis. Here’s an excerpt from the post:
